Mazda Truck
Mazda is the Japanese car manufacturer which was founded in 1920 and initially manufactured machine tools and weapons for the Japanese war effort. In 1931 , the company commenced producing vehicles and the division was branded "Mazda" – the company did not formally adopt the name itself until 1984.
The company differentiates itself by reliance on the Wankel rotary engine and after GM dropped its prototype, Mazda is the only major car maker to use this engine.
In 1979, amidst financial difficulties, the company entered into a partnership deal with Ford Motor Company which allowed for greater financial stability and access to Ford research and vehicle platforms. Today the company is known for its range of light-duty pickup trucks as epitomized by the 2009 B-series. There are rumors that Ford is looking to drop the Mazda deal in light of the current economic recession but the company denies this.
