Mercury Truck
Mercury was established by Edsel Ford (the son of Henry Ford) in 1939 as an intermediate brand between regular Ford models and Lincoln models (the latter being the luxury end of the Ford range). The company was started from scratch unlike General Motors who bought out Lincoln to become the comparable brand (GM’s manager was Bill Durant who went on a buying spree in the 1920’s and 30’s).
Mercury was not known for producing trucks and pickups but in 1946, Ford established Mercury truck operations in Canada and they manufactured trucks and pickups based on Ford models for the Canadian market. Mercury badged trucks continued to be produced until 1968 whereupon the Ford brand returned for the truck and pickup market.
Mercury trucks are rare as a result of the restricted market (Canada) and the restricted production of these models though superficial in many respects – they are after all, Ford models.
