Ferdinand Porsche established the Porsche Motor Company in Germany and the founder was a personal favorite of Adolf Hitler in pre-War Germany. Porsche was tasked with designing the Volkswagen Beetle in 1933 to bring motoring to the working people for use on the newly-built "Autobahn" highways. Porsche itself is a luxury car maker with a sporting pedigree known throughout the world for exceptional performance and engineering standards. Porsche does not have a history of making trucks and pickups but it has brought to market an SUV, the Cayenne.

The close association with Volkswagen has continued to the present day with Porsche acquiring a majority stake in VW, Europe’s largest car maker and the 3rd largest in the world – any trucks and pickup models are likely to be produced and marketed through VW to maintain the sport prestige of the Porsche name. Porsche has been made to purchase outright the Swedish truck maker, Scania due to VW’s majority holding in that company however, Porsche has indicated it will immediately transfer Scania to VW as soon as the takeover is completed.
