Saturn Truck
Saturn is the creation of General Motors as a separate, stand-alone company which was announced in 1983. By 1990, the first production model was launched with the immensely successful Saturn-S. This led to further development of the range of models manufactured within a partnership framework between GM and the American Union of Auto Workers – this ensured that employees fully participated in the success of the company.
Saturn has long been expected to enter the pickup truck market but has so far refrained. It does offer a range of SUV’s which have sold successfully, including the Saturn VUE and Outlook.
Development of new models is effectively on hold with the sale of Saturn by GM to Penske Automotive Group. Penske operate a nationwide network of dealerships but does not have the production facilities to make cars itself. Penske is currently looking to partner with a car maker for production of new vehicles and Renault Samsung is included.
