Gmc Truck
In 1901, the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was formed and in 1909, William Durant who managed General Motors bought the fledgling company as the vehicle for the growing conglomerates truck division. The company was immediately renamed General Motors Trucking Company and quickly became known simply as GMC. Over the years, GMC has manufactured light and medium-duty trucks as well as transit buses, ambulances, fire trucks and military vehicles.
After Chevrolet, GMC is the best-selling light-truck operating unit and indeed, virtually all GMC trucks are built on the same platforms as Chevrolets with differences in grill work and lighting (Chevrolet have dual headlights with GMC’s using quad headlights). With the parent company experiencing severe financial difficulties there was a great deal of speculation as to whether GMC would survive as a brand, but in 2009 it was announced GMC would remain in the General Motors line-up along with Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet.
