Lincoln Truck
Henry LeLand was one of the founders of the Cadillac Motor Company and after it was acquired by General Motors, he founded Lincoln in 1917, naming the company after Abraham Lincoln. The company experienced significant financial problems with the start of the great depression and was acquired by Ford in 1922 who used it as the luxury brand for their range. During the war years the company also manufactured aircraft engines for the war effort.
Lincoln has a unique distinction in that it is the car maker chosen to produce the official state limousines for use by the US President.
In the 1990’s the SUV and off-road market developed with high demand from consumers. Lincoln entered the market in 1998 with the Navigator which proved to be a huge commercial success and allowed the company to dominate the sector. By 2003, the brand was struggling to compete and Ford introduced changes to allow new models to be introduced faster – in 2006 the Mark LT pickup was launched and followed by MKX crossover SV in 2007.
