Chrysler
The Chrysler Corporation was created in 1925 by Walter P. Chrysler who has purchased the Maxwell Motor Corporation of Detroit. This was a start of a company that quickly gained a reputation for making vehicles with advanced engineering. The company expanded and purchased the Dodge Company.
The glory years for Chrysler started in the late 40’s; when it even surpassed the Ford Company as the number two US automaker. This was due to the introduction of the Hemi V8 engine. The Hemi engine was what was responsible for starting Detroit’s horsepower race of the 50’s and 60’s.
In the 60’s Chrysler introduced some new technologies such as the unibody construction. They also replaced generators with alternators for a car’s charging system. At this time Chrysler was also heavily involved with NASCAR and with producing performance oriented cars. Chrysler purchased the American Motors Corporation, which had the Jeep brand, and also had a joint venture with Mitsubishi in the 1980’s.
