Dodge
The Dodge Company was started by two brothers, Horace and John Dodge. In 1914 they founded the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company. Before starting the company they worked as manufacturers of bicycles and auto parts. The company grew quickly and by 1917 they had a line of vehicles that included trucks besides their cars. In WWI Dodge cars and trucks were used as staff vehicles and ambulances.
Dodge had some memorable vehicles over the years, which included the classic muscle car, the Dodge Charger. They were the first company to introduce a new line of vehicles to the public, which was the minivan. They also wowed the public with the V10 powered Viper roadster and the all new Ram Pickup.
In 1998 the Dodge Company was under the wing of the German based Daimler Benz as part of the DaimlerChrysler merger. This brought an influx of German technology into the Dodge vehicles. The Chrysler Group was unprepared for the rising gas prices and increased environmental awareness, and was sold to a private equity group in 2007.
