International
In 1902 the merger of McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and the Deering Harvester Company resulted in the International Harvester Company of Chicago, Illinois. The company produced the M series of military trucks that were used during WWII as weapon carriers, cargo transporters, and for light artillery movement. The company fell on hard times due to the agricultural economy. They divested all other divisions of the company and kept only the truck and engine divisions. The name was changed to Navistar International.
Navistar International formed a joint venture with Ford Motor Company in 2001. This joint venture will produce medium duty trucks and parts which will include diesel engines for both parent companies. The new company is called Blue Diamond Truck Company and operates out of a Navistar plant which is located in General Escobedo Mexico. Today Navistar International makes the largest pickup truck available on the market in the US. They are also developing a hybrid diesel electric truck.
