Isuzu Truck
Isuzu means 50 bells and is the name of a river that flows through a province in Japan. Its root date back to 1916 and the company forged a technical union with the UK based Wolseley Motor Company in 1918. The first truck was the CP. In the postwar years the production of Isuzu trucks boomed and they played a significant role in Japans reconstruction effort. They were used to ferry clothes, food, and other essentials.
Sales were relatively strong in the 1990s and that was due to the popular SUV, the Trooper. In 1999 General Motors became the majority shareholder in the Isuzu Company. The new millennium brought bad news for the company because the previous best selling SUV and truck were being outclassed by newer and fresher competition and sales plummeted. Currently Isuzu’s lineup only consists of two vehicles, a truck and an SUV which are both based on GM products.
