Peugeot
Peugeot is one of the oldest companies in the world and certainly amongst automobile manufacturers – the company was established in France in the 1700’s and was at the forefront in the development of mass-produced cars.
During the 1970’s the company acquired the European arm of Chrysler as the US car maker struggled at that time to turn itself around. This and several other acquisitions, including French rival car-maker, Citroen, led to huge losses in the first half of the 1980’s with an aging range of models. In 1983, the company launched the Peugeot 205 – a super mini – and this is now considered a classic and was a bestselling car across Europe. In the 15 years of production, the model never underwent any major alteration in design and this car saved Peugeot from financial disaster.
Peugeot has no US presence and is unlikely to launch sales of vehicles in the North American market soon due to the recession.
