Plymouth Truck
Chrysler introduced the Plymouth brand and models in 1928 to complete its range of brand and especially to fill a gap at the lower end of the market. Despite this apparent, bottom-end of the market marquee, the division ensured the survival of Chrysler during the Great Depression.
In 1937, Plymouth started producing and marketing trucks in the light-duty sector of the market. The PT-50, a half-ton pickup, was a best seller and a great commercial success. Pickups and trucks continued to be manufactured until 1982 when the Plymouth Arrow ceased to be produced and sold under the Plymouth brand – Chrysler was struggling to reinvent itself during the depressed economic times of the early 1980’s and entered into strategic alliances with several other car makers. The Plymouth Arrow was sold as the Mitsubishi Forte and Chrysler placed the Plymouth brand in mothballs in 2001 with all surviving models sold as either Chrysler or Dodge vehicles.
